This was our first holiday with Uncle Kevin and his then girlfriend, Lisa. Andy very nearly missed the flight after he left his passport at the security checkpoint and had to race back through the airport to find it whilst the flight was being boarded.

We flew with TUI from Gatwick Airport to Chania International Airport and then had a two hour coach transfer to our all inclusive hotel, Creta Paradise in the resort of Gerani. The hotel had direct access onto the beach, we didn’t spend much time at the beach as it was extremely windy whereas the pool area was nicely sheltered.

The Little Fun Train
One our first day we took a trip on a land train. Sadly just minutes into our journey it started to rain pretty hard. This was the first rain the island had seen all year, and at the very same time the UK was enjoying a 30 degree heatwave which lasted just the week we were away. The staff improvised and issued everyone with a binliner to pop our heads through, we did get some funny looks off the locals.
The land train took us through numerous Greek villages and made several stops:
- a monastery with fallow deer that we could stroke.
- a shops serving traditional Greek food with plenty of free tasters available
- a tour of the Terra Creta Olive factory.

Chania
We took the bus from outside our hotel for a short journey into Chania (pronounced Han-ya). It’s a beautiful old town with cobbled streets, numerous shops and many restaurants all the way around the marina.

Shortly before this holiday I purchased a full spectrum infrared camera which I enjoyed using in Crete.

Thankfully the flight home went without anyone losing their passports.
