France & Monaco 1998

The 5th-12th June was our second holiday together, and it was a proper mission. Andy was about to tick off a bucket list item of driving a real Formula One car. At that time, there was only one place in the world that this was possible and that was in the south of France at the former AGS Teams race track.

We did the journey in a VW Scirocco mark 1 using Le Shuttle. We took a two man tent, but also removed the rear seats so we could sleep in the car if necessary (which we actually preferred to do, turns out we’re not tent campers!).

I do have fond memories of one campsite in Le Turbie where we saw glowing green fire flies for the very first time and it was quite magical.

We drove down through the Gorge de Verdon.

The AGS Team track was very close to Monaco, so we naturally squeezed in a day trip. Whilst in Monaco we visited Jardin Exotique and some caves.

We also took a detour via Paris and took a lift to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
